My Rock...

Some words from Moses, speak loudly to me...today...

“For their rock is not like our Rock, Even our enemies themselves being judges.”  Deuteronomy 32:30-31

Really. We all believe something. Even the most ardent atheist believes.

Personally, I think it takes WAY more faith to NOT believe in God than to have faith in Him. Just go outside and take a look at one spring flower that is blooming. Well, I digress.

These last words of Moses, who tasted all the sensual lusts, money, status, and power the world had to offer in the first forty years of his life as prince of Egypt, knows that the world at large is banking on the flimsy rock of these things just mentioned. Don’t I sometimes too? My education, my position, my bank account, my house – the list goes on. These are all rocks I can put my hopes in, but as Moses states in the prior verse – take a look – these foundations eventually well sell me out. The devil, who distracts us with these less than foundations, will always sell me out.

Nope. I place my trust on a different Rock. The ROCK. The Rock of Ages. King Jesus who never falters, crumbles beneath me, cannot be shaken, and Who cannot fail.

What Rock are you hoping to save you in your current circumstances? Make sure it is the One and Only, True Rock. Anything less is just that: so much less.

He is After Me...

It’s never about others. Jesus is after us...

"Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves…"  2 Corinthians 13:5

It is so easy to look to others as the reason for our unhappiness, our dissatisfaction, or our stuff. If only… we think about those close to us. If only – they were different… We pray and pray for the folks in our lives to change, but God doesn’t seem to answer our prayers. So, we remain stuck. Stuck in our lives.

Does this resonate with you in any way? Have you ever had these thoughts? Been there, done that myself. Yet, it wasn’t until I let Jesus ruthlessly speak into my life about my stuff, my selfishness, and my issues did radical transformation happen in me and around me.

Someone needs to hear this. You are blaming others, yet King Jesus is after you. Nothing is going to change around you until you let Him deal with you first. Stop playing the blame game, because healing and restoration begins with you. Let Him clean your house and then see the bounty of His abundant life explode around you.

At the start of this week...

If your gas tank is empty, your bank account down the tubes, and your joy level scraping the bottom, turn to the One who loves and knows you best. Ask for His direction – then do it. Enough said.

If you already feel ambushed by life, circumstances, or possibly you may even feel ambushed by the people around you, look to the Lord Jesus! Take as much time as you need in His presence to restore your weary soul. Nothing else will do. Ask Him for a specific Scripture for your situation that you can hang onto. He will give it to you.

This is a week of new beginnings, hopes to be realized, and miracles to watch for. Keep your eyes open, your heart tender, and your mind from distraction. This week will be awesome in Jesus because He Who is in you is greater than anything!  1 John 4:4

My Name...

What is the name of endearment Jesus has given you?

...You shall be called by a new name, Which the mouth of the LORD will name.
Isaiah 62:2b

No, I’m not into any off-the-wall-new-name cult, yet there are several Scriptures which tell us that He will speak a new name over us when we see Him face-to-face. Yet, what does He name us now?

Jesus first called John, and his brother James, Sons of Thunder! Remember, they were the crew who wanted to incinerate some folks who weren’t open to the Lord’s message.

Yet, just like John, a person cannot be in Jesus’ presence long without experiencing His transforming touch. John, as an eye-witness to the Majesty of God, once named a Son of Thunder became the Beloved Disciple. And this same John, who once had wanted fire to fall, penned the most famous phrase in history...

For God so loved the world...

I encourage you to ask Jesus to tell you the name He has for you. He will and you will be changed just by hearing His voice whisper it in your ear.

Here I am....

We all need food to survive, thrive, and truly live...

"Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.” John 4:34

I was pondering this verse during my quiet time with Jesus this morning, just before heading off to work to walk into the new adventure Jesus had waiting for me there.

The Spirit is calling me deeper. He is calling me to deeper surrender. I want to spend the remaining years of my life only fulfilling Christ’s agenda, His plan, and His purpose for me. Honestly, He has already fulfilled every dream I ever had for myself, better than I could have ever expected. I just want to go out in a blaze of glory, His glory. Bring it on, Lord!

This is my food, my nourishment: finishing the work He created me for. Want to join me?

I know it will be a thrill ride!

Smoke Screen...

What’s that old saying? There is nothing to fear, but fear itself?

“Hear my voice, O God, in my meditation; Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.”  Psalm 64:1

Here, David prays, not to be safeguarded from the enemy himself, but the fear – you know – the dust the devil kicks up, this is what David wants preservation from.

Honestly. It is not that the adversary of our souls – the devil – that is to be feared, to cause anxiety, or be troubled about.  Because if we walk in the truth of who we are in Christ: His beloved children that have been given His authority here on earth, honestly, we have nothing to tremble about. Nope, the enemy is not to be feared, but it is our fear about him that can cause us angst.

Yes, David knows. Fear comes sneaking in when our resistance is down, we are tired, our way looks dark, and when we are discouraged. These things can keep us from communing with God Almighty daily; the source of fearless living. We don’t have to walk in fear of the enemy OR anything that he might try to throw at us. It is time to stop living this way. I mean, really.

So, when fear comes calling, this smoke screen that would keep you from all of God’s bounty, health, and joy in your life, send this bad boy packing in Jesus’ Name in in the power of His Word. Fear is not your portion…so don’t own it anymore.

He Will Repair the Ruined Cities...

Almost all of us have some form of desolation from our family tree...

And they shall rebuild the old ruins,
They shall raise up the former desolations,
And they shall repair the ruined cities,
The desolations of many generations.

Isaiah 61:4

This verse speaks directly to our past in regard to our family: our family history, environment, and the circumstances we were raised in. Personally, I grew up in a loving home, but it wasn’t until years later that I realized how dysfunctional it was. I needed some deep healing.

How about you? Addiction, divorce, sexual ruin, rage, compulsiveness, bitterness, self-pity, sickness, and the list goes on. These are issues we disdain, yet are oh so familiar marks of our families; of ourselves.

Nevertheless, the word shall, from this passage, triumphs. As we pursue Jesus – He shall and He will bring us out of the ruins of our family’s past. He will repair us completely as we invite Him into these closets. Let’s open the door and not be afraid of His tender touch to deliver us from these desolations. He shall do it.

Should you lock your keys in the car, leave your phone at the last store you visited, or your just plain old want to go back to bed and bury your head under the covers, remember! The Word of God is the absolute truth: This is the day the Lord has made – for you! Make the first thing you do be to take some time in His presence, opening The Bible and let Him restore your soul.

Should you receive a not so good diagnosis, a troubling email, or a phone call that sends you reeling, draw near to the One who holds all the answers. Who IS the answer. Make King Jesus your one and only priority and place every issue into His capable hands. He is able, He is willing, He is LORD.

From the Inside-Out...

From the inside-out...

"My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you."  Galatians 4:19

Yes, I want to be transformed into the image of Jesus from the inside-out. Apparently, our Lord Jesus desires this for us as well. Yes, indeed.

These are Paul’s words in his letter to the church in Galatia. However, Jesus also had some pretty harsh exchanges with those who would be satisfied and seemingly justified, as if appearances were all that needed a transformation in a person’s life. Yes, He called these smug folks white-washed tombs. Pretty on the outside, but full of death on the inside.

I am wanting more too. More of a complete overhaul into the image of the Savior. No more, Sue stuff to get in the way. I want to be made new, as in a complete metamorphosis – a word which contains the root word – meta – found in the original Greek word for formed in this verse.

Yes. Changed from the inside-out and nothing less.

His Peace...

I love how far Peter has come…

“And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were keeping the prison.”
Acts 12:6

Just as Peter was facing execution, where do we find him? Sleeping between two soldiers. In chains. No escape. Yet…hidden in the perfect peace of the Holy Spirit.

This is a far cry from the gospel’s record of Peter’s and the other disciple’s hysteria when they were once upon a sailing vessel about to go under in the midst of a storm. There, the Lord Jesus was the one sleeping. Perfect peace in the storm. In the storms of life.

This is now Peter’s experience. Not Christian theory. Not merely Christian hope. But the reality of the Holy Spirit’s felt comfort and joy, and unexplainable peace.

Yes, Peter has come a long way in his faith. And he invites us to join him in living and realizing the matchless peace of Christ, no matter what we face.

Qualified...

You are qualified...

"Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light."
Colossians 1:12

I think this is one of the hardest truths to drum through our heads. Especially me. I have felt so disqualified from all my inheritance in Jesus because of my past - my past failure, rebellion, sin, and just plain doing some truly stupid things.

How about you?

Do you feel the same way at times? Yet, God’s word trumps our failures. His anguish on the cross secured our qualification. Our sins are forgiven as this passage goes on to tell us. This is the truth – His truth, and who are we to argue? This is our launching pad – what we couldn’t do, He did.

It is time to start living in this truth and doing what the Holy Spirit is placing in our hearts to accomplish for Jesus’ Kingdom. He has already qualified us for the task at hand.

Place Your Name Here...

Savor the passage below by filling in the blanks with your name...

“But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O ________, And He who formed you, ________.”
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you ________; I have called you by your name; ________ are Mine.”
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you ________; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you ________. When you walk through the fire, you ________ shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you ________.”
“For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of _______l, your Savior...”
Isaiah 43:1-3

We can legitimately insert our names wherever Israel or any Bible personage is mentioned, because of our spiritual heritage Galatians 3:14.
However, as with many of God’s promises, there is a condition for us to fulfill to know splendor through such agony: The Lord Jesus must be Lord. In other words, we need to give Him complete control of our situations – good, bad, and ugly. If you are in control, Who isn’t?

Make this passage your own. Hold it tightly. And, above all, surrender your situation to the One Who loves you, _______, beyond belief.

Stand...

Shaky ground is the pits. Wouldn’t you agree?

"Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,"  Ephesians 6:14

We all know lies hurt, lies harm, and lies deceive. How much greater the pain when our adversary, the devil, lies to us and we believe him over what Jesus speaks to us. Truly then, we have nothing to stand on as Paul exhorts us to do. The belt of truth keeps the whole armor of God on us. Jesus not only speaks truth; He is Truth speaking. Think on that. His Word is truth John 17:17. It is imperative for us to drink it in, let it transform us, and help us to stand. No matter what we go through.

As for righteousness – well, we just don’t have any on our own. Just being real, here. Jesus alone is our righteousness. We need to clothe ourselves in His breastplate of righteousness which covers our heart and shields us from the darts of the enemy. Darts called guilt, shame, worthless, and inadequate. We must understand who we are in Christ.

Yes. I want to stand clothed in His truth and righteousness every single day that I have breath.

We Gotta Grab Hold...

Our sword in battle...

"And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;"
Ephesians 6:17

Yes, it is this God-breathed Word that brings healing to us and this God- breathed Word that annihilates our adversary, the devil.

This sword, well, we gotta have a death grip on it. I mean, we have to have our hands, heads, and hearts so wrapped around it that no weapon of hell could ever pry it loose from us. It is His Word that has authority; not our words – His Word on our lips that will wreak havoc on demon strongholds over people, situations, families, and nations.

Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a passage of Scripture for what you are burdened about. He will give it to you. Then speak it over what troubles you – praying and speaking in the name of Jesus. Keep declaring and praying as the Spirit leads you. Let God ignite this sword that you wield because it is your ammunition – your only ammunition.

It is time to grab this sword and not let go.

He is For Us...

Sad, but true. I spent a number of years thinking God was against me.

"What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:31

What we just read is the truth. We have a heavenly Father who loves us beyond reason and never withdraws, withholds, or revokes His unfailing agape toward us. Yet, we have an enemy. Take him, plus the failings and brokenness of our souls, and it is oh so easy to believe the lie our God is against us.

Most of us aren’t even for our own selves. We know our stuff. You know, the stuff no one sees. And the shame of our stuff lies to us. We can pray up a storm for others, but we can barely lift our eyes to pray and believe our Father would pour out blessings upon us.

If this is you, it is time to break the root of this lie. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you where it started – usually in your very early years. Get it taken care of and break the agreement with it. Then, let your Father scoop you up in His arms and whisper His truth into your heart:

He is for you.

Need to Know Basis...

Really. God often seems to work with us on a ‘need to know’ basis…

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”  Matthew 6:34

Many of you know that I recently took a leave from my workplace through the Christmas Season to care for my ailing dad. What a Jesus story! What a beautiful way to spend the holidays with all of our family! What a gift I will take into eternity with me as in early January, my dad took the Lord’s outstretched hand and walked from this life into the next incredible, incomparable adventure.

Yet, my point is this: Though God often tends to whisper into my heart what will lie ahead, in this season of my journey with Him, He didn’t. He wanted to me to press into His presence, drink in His written Word, even if just for second, and wait for His leading every moment of every day. I had all I needed, because Jesus gave me all I needed…in that given moment. He didn’t parcel out anything in advance. So…

Dear friend, quit trying to predict the future or force an outcome. Listen to the Lord’s words above and truly live one day at a time. Your life at the moment may be perplexing and a puzzle to you. However, He alone holds all the right pieces to make an exquisite picture and you don’t want to mar or miss the beauty and wonder He has in store for you.

But God...

Really. Honestly. There are two Bible words that can transform your life...

“And the patriarchs, becoming envious, sold Joseph into Egypt.
But God was with him.”
Acts 7:9

Have you guessed? The words are: ‘But God...’

These words can change everything for you. In the context of this passage, Stephen is retelling Joseph’s horrific abuse story that was turned on a dime into glory, honor, position, and healing. This means, no one else can ruin your life. No matter what someone has done to you, no matter how appalling and painful –‘But God’ – can change everything. But God...is with you.

My dear friend, Alicen, kept repeating to me, “But God...” when incurable cancer had come back into my body for the third time. This time my oncologists and surgeons were telling me, “This is the end, Sue.” However, Alicen kept saying to me, “Doesn’t matter what the diagnosis is... ‘But God’ changes everything.” It did. I was operated upon, partial segments of several organs were taken. No cancer could be found anywhere. But God...

Where in your life do you need a ‘But God’ moment? It is time to believe He IS with you and He desires for you to know Him intimately in this season of trial. Yes. Anything is possible when we answer tragedy, tears, or terror with the words, “But God is with me.”

Intentional...

I’m late in my Journey in Jesus to get out of my comfort zone...

"Go therefore and make disciples..."
Matthew 28:19

I am late for intentionally discipling others in their Journey in the Lord. Now that I am actively engaged in this fundamental part of a faith walk, I have found it to be a huge, beyond-description high.

No matter how long we have walked with the Lord, we all need to be discipled by someone, even if they are just a few inches ahead of us on the same path with Jesus. We, in turn, need to look over our shoulders and purposely look for those with whom we can invest our lives. Jesus didn’t call us to become reservoirs of knowledge and experience, but to be rivers that His Spirit can flow through to others.

For our own continued growth in God, we need to be intentionally making disciples. Knowing someone is being led by us, and they are observing our lives, keeps us humble before Him. Sharing His faithfulness in the good, bad, and ugly of our own story can be life-altering for someone else.
